Results from our 4th CUBE 2020 competition!

Orange, La Poste, RATP, Natixis and Generali take home the French energy saving championship!
Nicolas Hulot, former Minister of the Environment and avid environmental activist, honored the winners of the CUBE 2020 Competition by awarding them their prizes at the recent CUBE 2020 Awards Ceremony.

For 4 years, the French Institute for Building Performance (IFPEB) has been organizing the CUBE 2020 Competition, the French energy saving competition among the non-residential, existing building sector. The contest allows the candidates that have reduced their energy consumption and CO2 and GHG emissions the most to be rewarded for their general mobilization of tenants / users as well as the technical and operational teams.

In the presence of Nicolas Hulot, former Minister of the Environment, the 2019 edition of CUBE 2020 has echoed with a general mobilization of a wide variety of buildings: small and large surfaces, towers, shops, semi-industrial buildings, public buildings, universities, halls and markets, an emergency building of a hospital, among others, demonstrating that action is possible well across the entire tertiary (non-residential) sector.

252 establishments competed for one year (July-June): 41 Orange buildings, 4 RATP buildings, 6 La Poste buildings, over 40 state buildings, all throughout France, Natixis, town halls in Normandy and in Bonifacio, Generali Real Estate, BNP Paribas, educational institutions in Angers, Toulouse and Bordeaux…
To reduce their energy consumption, dozens of techniques and eco-gestures were implemented, often simple, and sometimes very innovative: the creation of “green teams”, adjustment of temperatures and hours of heating, elimination of night lighting and of water fountain lighting, installation of well-sealed doors… The results?

• 12% energy savings on average
• More than 100 candidates exceeding 10% savings
• 57.4% energy savings in one year for the overall winner, Orange (place d’Alleray, Paris 15th neighborhood)
• 70.9% reduction of CO2 emissions for a La Poste building in Limoges, France

The 5th edition is well-underway and focused on its international presence just as much as on its local French participation! Under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment, with the support from the State Real Estate Council, the Sustainable Building Plan, EDF, Poste Immo, Schneider Electric, the Housing, Town Planning and Landscapes Directorate (DHUP), the competition has gained a European dimension with teams based in Morocco, Spain, Poland, and the Czech Republic thanks to the international participation of BNP Paribas and Invesco.

The next CUBE edition is already beginning to prove its international dimension with 2 of the 13 buildings currently registered based in: Portugal!
